September is National Preparedness Month

As Alaska continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, severe weather and natural disasters aren’t that far from people’s minds. September is National Preparedness Month and a perfect time for families, businesses, and communities to start disaster planning, or review existing plans.

Through September, use the below tips to help you get prepared for the unexpected.

Week 1: Make A Plan

Talk to your co-workers, friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster.

Week 2: Build A Kit

Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease

Week 3: Prepare for Disasters

Know the risk of disasters in your area and check your insurance coverage.

Week 4: Teach About Preparedness

Talk to your co-workers and family about preparing for emergencies and provide information about how everyone can get involved.
