Requirements:
- Able to pass a State of Alaska criminal background check

- Can pass a background check
- Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Physically able to care for children - can lift at least 40 lbs. and able to participate in walking fieldtrips that may include uneven terrain
- CPR/First Aid or able to obtain one within 90 days of hire
Experience is not required, but preference for applicants with experience working in a preschool setting, with a CDA or degree relating to early childhood development/education. Our program can offer support for a motivated applicant who would like to work towards an AA or CDA.

- Responsible for obtaining a minimum of 24 hours of training annually as required by the Department of Education and Early Development in addition to CPR/First Aid - Training needs to be relevant to the care giver's job responsibilities, such as health and safety, child growth and development, planning learning activities, guidance and discipline techniques, linkage with community services, communication and relations with families, reporting child abuse and neglect and other topics as appropriate
- Maintaining professional working relationships with parents and other staff as stated in the NAEYC Code of Conduct
- Assist/attend public events sponsored by the center
- Neatly and appropriately dressed, well-groomed, and clean
- Professional attitude both at the center and in the community
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences
In the Classroom:
- Planning, supervising, and implementing program activities/routines in accordance with policies and philosophy of the center
- Gearing the program to meet the unique needs the children with regard to their interests, challenges, special talents, and individual learning styles
- Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
- Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom and center
- Assuming equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities to maintain a clean, orderly, and workable center
- Assist in evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of children
- Supervising assistants, aids, volunteers, and parent helpers
- Accomplishing all routine tasks with regard to the health and safety of the children and the maintenance of the program in accordance with state and local regulations
