That’s why thread is excited to offer the 2026 Alaska SEED Mini ROOTS Award, providing a one-time financial award of $500.00 to eligible early childhood and school-age professionals.
A little support can make a difference
The 2026 Mini ROOTS Award is made possible through one-time federal Preschool Development Grant B-5 funding together with resources from the Alaska SEED Child Care Resource and Referral grant. While this is not the long-term investment we believe Alaska’s early childhood workforce needs, it is an opportunity to provide meaningful support to educators right now. Every bit helps, and we want to get these dollars into the hands of educators as quickly as possible.
thread recognizes that early childhood educators deserve more than a one-time award. We will continue to advocate for sustainable, annual investment in the early childhood workforce because strong compensation and support are essential to recruiting and retaining educators who keep child care programs open and operating.
When we support early childhood educators, we help strengthen the child care system that Alaska families, businesses, and communities depend on.
A Mini ROOTS Award cannot solve the larger challenges facing Alaska’s child care workforce. But it can provide a little extra support to an educator today, while thread continues working toward the long-term investments our early childhood workforce needs.
Apply while funding is available
The 2026 Alaska SEED Mini ROOTS Award application opens September 25, 2026, and closes November 16, 2026, or when funding is no longer available.
Because funding is limited, the application period could close early. We encourage eligible educators to apply as soon as possible.
Applications will be processed as they are received, and thread will work to process applications and issue awards as quickly as possible.
You may be eligible if you:
- Are a current and active member of the Alaska SEED Registry; and
- Are currently employed as a paid employee of a licensed or approved child care facility, Head Start/Early Head Start, Tribal Head Start/Early Head Start, Parents as Teachers, or a Paraprofessional working in pre-elementary classrooms in a school district.
