Getting Ready for Election 2022

School is out, and the sun is shining! While families are busy making plans for summer, individuals running for public office are busy planning their campaigns. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming election season.

Offices Up for Election

Alaskans will vote for a record number of federal and statewide offices this year. Seats up for election include:

National

  • US Senator
  • US Representative

State

  • Governor/Lt. Governor
  • 59 of the 60 state legislative seats (representing both State House of Representatives and Senate)

New Election System

Alaska will be using a new election system that includes a “pick one” primary election ballot and a “ranked-choice” general election ballot. This short video from Anchorage Daily News explains how the new system works.

Stay Informed

It’s shaping up to be a busy election season, but don’t worry – we’ve got you covered for election dates and information important to families and children!

In the months leading up to the election, we’ll be sharing blog posts and social media content including voter registration deadlines, questions you can ask your candidates, and activities to help involve children in the elections.  

We’re also joining Alaska Children’s Trust to support their Vote for Kids campaign, kicking off on June 25 with Rally for Kids in Anchorage.
