Dear Early Childhood Educators,

Happy Provider Appreciation Day -- We Love Your Spirit, Rain or Shine!

Since 1996, Provider Appreciation Day has been a national day of recognition for early childhood educators everywhere. This year the COVID-19 pandemic has brought new meaning to this special day.

During this crisis, you have had to make hard business and career decisions. You are keeping children healthy while balancing your own needs at this time. You are sewing masks for each other and supporting your families in need. You are staying in touch with your children on Zoom and with drive-by hellos.

For these acts of heroism, thread says thank you. We are grateful for you and the entire early childhood community.

At thread, we have long known that child care and early childhood educators are essential to Alaska’s well-being and economic stability. This is even more evident as we move to reopen Alaska. Without you, it will be a challenge for families to return to work.

Today, on Provider Appreciation Day, we are happy to show you how much we care!

Announcing the COVID-19 Quality Initiative (QI)

thread is excited to announce we have partnered with the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), the State of Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED), and the Mat-Su Health Foundation to bring you the COVID-19 Quality Initiative.

If you are a licensed child care program in Alaska, or a Pre-Elementary School, or Pre-Elementary Head Start program, you are eligible to apply for the this initiative.

The intent of this QI is to help you continue to provide safe and healthy environments for children, get supplies, keep the lights on, retain staff, or reopen. It is one way we can assist your efforts.

  • You can apply for the COVID-19 Quality Initiative here.

Applications are due by May 31. We encourage you to apply soon as this is a first-come, first-serve initiative.

During May and June, we will continue to offer thread training for free. It’s exciting to see many of you participate in professional development by Zoom. Keep checking the training calendar for the latest offerings.

Because we are all in this together, we recently invited our community to share a Provider Appreciation Day message with you. Stop by thread's  Gratitude Wall to read these special posts.

We hope you continue to stay safe and healthy.

With gratitude,

Stephanie Berglund
