September is National Preparedness Month

As Alaska continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, severe weather and natural disasters aren’t that far from people’s minds. September is National Preparedness Month and a perfect time for families, businesses, and communities to start disaster planning, or review existing plans.

Through September, use the below tips from Ready.gov to help you get prepared for the unexpected.

Week 1: Make A Plan

Talk to your co-workers, friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster.

Week 2: Build A Kit

Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control.link

Week 3: Prepare for Disasters

Know the risk of disasters in your area and check your insurance coverage.

Week 4: Teach About Preparedness

Talk to your co-workers and family about preparing for emergencies and provide information about how everyone can get involved.
