The new task force is charged with developing a plan to improve the availability and affordability of quality child care throughout Alaska.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery child, every family and every community deserves to have access to high-quality, affordable child care,\u201d said Stephanie Berglund,<strong> thread<\/strong>\u2019s CEO.&nbsp; \u201cHigh-quality child care keeps children safe and healthy, and helps them to develop the skills they need for school success.&nbsp; It is also an essential service, supporting a family\u2019s ability to work.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Child care is a complex issue with many facets, from the high cost that parents pay to the underpaid workforce to the cost of high-quality care.&nbsp; Federal relief funding has shown that investment in child care pays off for retaining early educators and keeping child care businesses open.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>thread<\/strong> has been advocating for sustainable solutions for child care that engage both the private and public sector, and align to the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/earlychildhoodalaska.com\/strategic-plan-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Early Childhood Strategic Plan<\/a>,\u201d said Lindsie Mills, President of <strong>thread<\/strong>\u2019s Board of Directors. \u201cThe Governor\u2019s announcement today prioritizes this issue for our state and puts us on a path to finding solutions together.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Governor\u2019s Task Force will consist of 11 voting members, including eight who are not state officials, two ex-officio members and one advisory member.&nbsp; To support the task force work, a new cost of care study and a workforce study will be conducted, and the market rate survey will be updated.&nbsp; The initial report is due to the Governor by December 31, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Child care is an issue that impacts all Alaskans and will only be solved with the involvement of all Alaskans.&nbsp;&nbsp;
