The resources below can help you make informed decisions about your infant or child\u2019s sleeping environment and routine at home or in care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Safe Sleep Recommendations for Infants Updated this Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 21, 2022, t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a>&nbsp;(AAP) updated sleep recommendations for infants. Here\u2019s what you need to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Room Sharing:&nbsp;<\/strong>Infants should room share with parents\/guardians through at least 6 months of age. It\u2019s recommended that for safest sleep, babies sleep in a crib, bassinet, or bedside sleeper.<\/li><li><strong>Empty Cribs:<\/strong>&nbsp;Infants should sleep alone in an empty crib with no blankets, stuffed animals, loveys, pillows or crib bumpers.<\/li><li><strong>Back is Best:&nbsp;<\/strong>Infants should sleep on their backs. Research shows that this is the safest position for infant sleep.<\/li><li><strong>Try a Pacifier<\/strong>: Pacifiers have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.<\/li><li><strong>Smoke-free Environments.<\/strong>&nbsp;Smoke in the house, on clothing, bedsheets, etc. can cause irritation and breathing problems for infants and young children.<\/li><li><strong>Breastfeeding Recommended When Possible:<\/strong>&nbsp;Some evidence shows that human milk reduces the risk of SIDS.
