thread is excited to announce a new six-month advocacy program made possible by funding from Child Care Aware of America. This grant-funded initiative, Parents for Care, will run from August 2025 through March 2026, uniting parents, foster parents, and legal guardians from across Alaska to strengthen our state’s child care system. You don’t need any background in policy or advocacy to participate, just a passion for improving child care in Alaska. The application form is quick and easy to complete, with no wrong answers. Throughout the program, you’ll gain valuable knowledge about how policy and advocacy work, and how quality child care supports healthy brain development in young children. Best of all, committing just a few hours each month can help create lasting, meaningful change for families across the state.

As a participant, you’ll join a supportive network of parent advocates working to make child care in Alaska more affordable, accessible, and high-quality. You’ll meet once a month via Zoom to build practical advocacy skills, gain a deeper understanding of child care policies, and explore actionable ways to drive change in your community. This program builds on real momentum; parent advocates have already helped secure two new child care laws and an additional $12 million in funding this year! There’s more work ahead, and your voice can help move progress forward.

Participants who stay actively involved may also be eligible for fully funded trips to Juneau, Alaska, and Washington, DC, to meet with policymakers and connect with parent leaders nationwide. A stipend will be provided for those who travel.

To participate in the Parents for Care program, you must be a parent, foster parent, or legal guardian of children, and you must live in Alaska. Individuals who do not hold one of these caregiving roles or who reside outside of Alaska are not eligible for the program.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of this powerful movement for Alaska’s children. Let your voice help lead the way!
Whether you’re new to advocacy or already passionate about creating change, this is your opportunity to learn, connect, and take action that benefits all Alaskan families.

The application period will be open from July 28, 2025, to August 15, 2025.
