{"id":5344,"date":"2019-12-31T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-31T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threadalaska.org\/learn-and-grow\/blog\/2020-is-the-year-of-the-census"},"modified":"2019-12-31T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-12-31T18:00:00","slug":"2020-is-the-year-of-the-census","status":"publish","type":"learn-and-grow-blog","link":"https:\/\/www.threadalaska.org\/learn-and-grow\/blog\/2020-is-the-year-of-the-census","title":{"rendered":"2020 is the Year of the Census"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"blog_content\">\n<p>Once every 10 years, our nation undergoes a census, the single best source of information about the demographics and growth potential of the US market.<br \/>\n    An accurate census count is critical to the federal government accurately distributing more than $800 billion in federal funds to local communities<br \/>\n    each year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Accurate counts in the census affect federal funding distributions for many public programs, including child care subsidies and the Child and Adult<br \/>\n        Care Food Program (CACFP). <\/p>\n<p>They also help allocate funding more equitably for other programs children rely on like the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants,<br \/>\n        and Children (WIC), the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Medicaid, foster care, adoption assistance, Section 8 of the House Act of 1937,<br \/>\n        Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and community health centers. <a href=\"https:\/\/info.childcareaware.org\/blog\/census-2020-count-all-kids-alert?utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=79862643&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9S126FZ46JISLNwIuNQJJjsllobd91JpUc-xmfCqrJ84qprvn2iUwc5K_WihKJVIxNYVJ7eat8CUgH-tDaUUjTAkjsPi5B0vbt8M5HQXLfQfaXNao&amp;_hsmi=79862643\">Learn more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, in 2010, the census missed over two million children age 4 and under \u2013 or one out of every 10 young children. In fact, so many young<br \/>\n        children were missed in the last census that states collectively lost over a half a billion dollars a year ii every year for the last decade.
